I made my own tool out of Art and Craft Wire:

I'm sure everyone has their own personal way of remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We chose to watch every movie and documentary we could find on him, while switching back and forth between all of the Obama pre-inauguration events taking place in DC. Unfortunately to our children, Dr. King will always be someone they read about in a history book. As parents, the responsible thing to do is to work hard to keep our children connected to WHY they have the rights they do, and WHO are the named and nameless souls who dared to give their lives for our future. My husband and I have almost demanded that in addition to our children learning their history, they practice respect for it. Why?? Because we feel strongly that if they can't respect their past they will NEVER respect themselves. It's OK to disagree, but without respect, we will never survive. That's what Dr. King was trying to teach us.
Michelle Obama will leave a legacy a strength and pride for our daughters to embrace and follow. Together THEY are the hope of the Greatest DREAMER!!
**This is a picture of her at the Grand Canyon with one of her Marching Band Buddies on a recent band trip to Arizona.
It's shocking to see your children start turning into THEMSELVES - it's also a little scary, because that's when they start using your words against you, challenging you on YOUR principles, asking more and more questions and affirming themselves in the world. This is the transitional time as a parent when you must step back from the child and watch from a distance while she finds her way. Soon she will leave the nest and move into a college dorm. Then the fun really starts as hubby and I will no longer be able to monitor her comings and goings. But, now is the time to excercise great faith - this is the time to rest in the fact that we have taught her as much as we could, nurtured her as best we could...........and just like we couldn't keep her from falling off her bike as a child, we wouldn't dream of keeping her from going out into the world and finding IT as it finds her. We have been through this twice with our two oldest sons so you would think that I would be used to this feeling by now, but it sure is different when it's a baby GIRL.
Peace Lovies!!
I have had my braidlocs in for about 3 weeks and it was time for a wash. I wasn't scared to wash my hair, I wore twists for 7 straight months last year and I washed my twists all the time with Dr. Bonners Castille soap with Hemp and Almond Oil in it. I washed my braids and put them it big plats and let my hair dry over night - this is probably my own variation of the SL braid and band method.
There are a MILLION shampoos out there that are really good. My personal practice is 'use what works best for you'. Dr. Bonners is the best that I have used - and believe me, I have tried some of EVERYTHING. LOL!!
So, analysis of my first wash, SUCESS - I had to re-braid 1 braidloc. Not bad!! As a reward, I'm gonna treat myself to some rasberry herbal tea. Care to join me?
Come on in the room! Sit down and stay a while. The herbal tea is flowin' the music is playin' and the vibes are always positive. Soak up some positive energy, let the music feed your soul and drop me some love before you go. HOTEP my Brothers and Sistars!!
